HPV Genital Warts Treatment > Genital Warts In Women > question for those who have been treated..

question for those who have been treated..

I’ve got an appointment on Thursday to see a gyn for treatment. My family doctor expects that they will be cauterized (sp)…..or burned off…..has anyone gone through this? What can I expect? I guess any information is good…but these are my most “burning” questions if you will!

1. How long does it normally take/session? (I’ve got one wart as far as I can tell, just inside)
2. How many times do people usually go back for treatment, and how long in between treatments?
3. How long until you see results? Or till you heal?
4. I’m assuming it’s painful…..is this true? How painful? Can you describe it? Please don’t sugar coat!
5. Was it painful even after the treatment? For how long?
6. Do people generally have to miss time at work for healing or is it something that you can kinda jump back into….(My appointment is at 9:45 am, so I was hoping to report back to work afterwards….is this going to be possible?)

Thanks

I have been through this and I had only a couple of warts too. They put some kind of acid on them. I went and had them done once but after 2 weeks they still hadn’t healed all the way so I had them burned again. It just takes a few seconds for them to do it. 2 weeks later they still havent all healed even though she said I probably wouldnt have to come back I still probable need to.
As for the pain, I am not going to lie it does feel like you have sat on a very hot stove and you still feel it a little while after the procedure too. I cried when I had it. But I will keep my fingers crossed for you. It may not hurt everyone the same! I look forward to hearing from you again. I will be thinking of you.

    Hey Tara!

    1. From start time to finish, it took less than 15 minutes. The wait time in the doctor’s office is the kicker!

    2. Treatment time is different for everyone. My breakouts are extensive, so I’m having to go back every four weeks to get treated. My boyfriend, however, got the same treatment, went back for the checkup, and as long as no other breakouts appear, he’s good to go until he does have one.

    3. With my first treatment, I saw results after a couple of weeks. Truthfully, I didn’t look for a couple of weeks either, so it may have been sooner. The doctor told me I would notice them starting to ‘fall off’, but I never did. The first day was uncomfortable, the second day was better. By the third day, it felt like skin that needed lotion. Just…tight. Hope that makes sense.

With this last treatment, because of the location, I ended up sloughing a lot of the place off myself in the bathroom by accident. It was a little gross, but it’s healing up fine.

    4. I’m going to be honest here and say that this ‘may’ depend on your doctor. The first visit wasn’t what I expected. I thought it was going to be this horrendous experience. He put vaseline around the breakout to keep from burning my skin. He put the acid on a cotton swab and burned the area. I was supposed to tell him when it hurt so bad I couldn’t take it. When I did, he put water saturated gauze on the area.

Imagine someone holding a lighter close enough to your skin that you feel the heat. As they move it closer, it burns more, until it feels like they are burning your skin. You say you can’t take it, and the pain goes away. That’s the best way I can explain it.

The second visit, there was no vaseline, he started burning me and didn’t tell me he had started, and when I told him I couldn’t take it, he told me, ‘Just a few more seconds.’ I hit the wall and screamed that it was burning, and he said, ‘You’ll be alright.’
Needless to say he and I will be having a chat at the next visit, but after the wet gauze was put on there, it was MUCH better.

    5. I wasn’t in pain after the treatment. Just a little uncomfortable. I was able to go back to work. If you sweat a lot, that will probably irritate it. Also, be careful going to the bathroom, (wiping).

Hope this helps! Good luck to you! Feel free to get in touch with me if you have any other questions I can answer! It’s not unbearable.
And I promise, after the first visit, you will think, ‘It’s not what I wanted to go through, but it could have been a lot worse!’

    Take care!

Thanks so much for the couple of people that responded……I think it’s safe to say that this is gonna suck! I’m definitely not looking forward to it, but I’m also not looking forward to looking at these things with the hopes that they might go away on their own…….Oh my…..less than 24 hours to go……I can do this!

    Thanks again!
