Question About Testing

I was just told by my obgyn that I have genital warts. She just looked at them and said that that was what they appeared to be. She did not do any test like with vinegar that I have been researching on the internet. Is the vinegar solution just plain vinegar or is it mixed with something else to make the warts turn white? Mine did not turn white and she did not sound sure that that was exactly what I had.

Thank you for any information.

That’ all my doc did, she looked at it and said you have Genital warts. She gave me a pamphlet and a script for some Aldara.

Ok…so I am not the only one that has had this issue. But can’t I have a test done or something. When I left I felt like I had no information because she did not give me any. I just want to go to another doctor so I can have a definate answer. She was not as thorough as I would have liked her to be.

Oh that is normal. A lot of doctors are like that. She probably diagnosed you properly. If you want more info, there is a ton of it on the internet and just with the people here as resources. The center for disease control has some info as well as the Kinsey Institute.
The bottom line is, if you have a wart, chances are great it’s HPV. The more info you get the more comfortable you’ll be about this.

That’s all my doctor did as well, but I guess it was pretty obvious that I had genital warts, and the Aldara did make it go away so she must have been right. I went to another doctor who did the same thing, but also tested for high risk HPV, which I don’t have thank god.

My doc took a look and said that is what i had and did my first treatment that day, scheduled me to come back in for one more and then gave me a script for aldara and a pamphlet about HPV.. if you dont think you were diagnosed right then go to another doctor and get treated

HPV (genital warts) and HSV-2 (genital sores) are two totally different things. HPV can NOT be tested through your blood since it’s a skin to skin transmitted virus. You are either visually diagnosed or they scrape the abnormal cells. HSV is tested through blood, however that can also be visually diagnosed. Some doctors can look at the “outbreak” on the skin and know the difference between HSV and HPV.

I agree with the other people who said if you’re not happy, go to another doctor. It’s your life, you’re health, and it’ll affect you the rest of your life.

First and foremost, schedule an appt with another doctor. Then get tested for everything else. The concern that warts don’t always mean HPV is true… it could be herpes, though I do think your doctor was correct. Unless your doctor said or did something to make you think they weren’t sure, they were probably right. But that isn’t an excuse for them not giving you all the info you need and making you feel like you know what you’re dealing with.

Go see someone else, and bring a list of questions with you so you leave feeling like you know all the answers. I’d get tested for everything else, to be safe. And then see what the doc says about
    treatment, ect.

The vinegar test is actual vinegar mixed with some other chemical I forget but I read it in a book. It’s most popular on men but can give false positive results. The liquid is spread on the skin and the “warts” are supposed to turn white but some natural bumps also turn white as well. It is possible to diagnose low risk hpv genital warts visually without any test. I knew it myself once I looked at it and felt it, and when I seen the doctor she took a look and said it was hpv.
