ok, since my boyfriend told me last night that he has genital warts i have checked out a lot of websites trying to learn as much as i can. one thing i can’t seem to find, though: i am showing no symptoms, but it wasn’t that long ago that we stopped using condoms, and this is his first outbreak since we’ve been together. so if i have no symptoms, can the dr even tell me if i have hpv yet? or do i have to wait it out and see if i get an outbreak? i really am not liking just waiting for my dr appt on tues, so the thought of waiting months to see if i have an outbreak is definitely not sounding good.
A pap smear will NOT tell you if you have HPV or not., but it will detect if there have been any abnormal cell changes in the skin tissue on and around your cervix (which would indicate that you have HPV). Even if your were exposed to HPV, you may never show symptoms of the virus, such as the aforementioned cell changes or in the form of genital warts. A trip to the OBGYN might be a good idea, however. He/she can use a vinegar test that will expose any warts that may be too small to see unaided with the naked eye. He/she can also educate you more thoroughly on the virus and its different types.
