I’m fine with that. My main problem is how do I tell my partner? We’ve been talking for a little over a month and have had sex 1 time with a condom. we did have oral sex but my dr. said he wouldn’t get it because I don’t have warts. Should I tell him? I feel embarresed and ashamed. I know I shouldn’t because so many people have HPV. I don’t know if this friendship is serious or not. He knows my friends and I don’t want him to tell them or be mad at me. I feel alone and scared for any future relationships. Will anyone ever want me again?

Ok, I’ve known for the better part of a year that I had contacted HPV. I noticed a bump on my penis about 13 months ago and went to the doctor who prescribed me Aldara. I put it on and nothing really happened so the Doctor at the time thought it might just be a skin tag. I’ve had those too so I thought no biggie.

About 2 months later I started seeing other bumps that looked different than the first. They started occurring more around the skin between my penis and testicles. To date, I would say I’ve got about a dozen small warts around the base of my penis. I’ve been back to the Doctor three times since the new year to get them frozen. The treatment has not been successful and I’m thinking about going back to the Doctor to see if I can get on Aldara again.

I’ve got a lot of questions. Frankly, there seems to be a lot more out there on the web dealing with HPV and WOMEN, not men. This has led to some frustration. I know the basics of the disease, how it’s caused and how it’s transmitted.

On a personal note, when I found out that I had the disease my girlfriend at the time accepted the news pretty well. She’s a med-student and she understands that most people have some sort of the virus. She also knew that I was pretty promiscuous. Now, we’ve broken up and it had nothing to do with the disease.

Here are some of my questions:

How long do outbreaks tend to last? I know this answer is going to vary but I’ve had some of these warts for over a year and they aren’t going away. More are coming. I guess I’m naive because I know that at some point, at least I HOPE at some point, they will go away. I know I’ll always have the disease but the warts will at some point go away. Am I kidding myself?

And I want to get some other opinions from people that are dating. I told a girl after the end of my relationship that I had the virus and we had sex one more time (with protection of course) and then that was it. There were other things that led to the breakup but in the back of my mind I figure that was at least a leading indicator. If I’m going to casually date, as long as I use protection, is it ok not to disclose this? I haven’t had to worry about this yet, but I honestly don’t know what I would do. Am I going to be forced to find other singles with the disease just to ease my concious?

I’m really looking to get other guys opinions on this but I’d like to hear from women as well.

Some history : I’m a virgin. I have never done anything that would have logically led to my contracting HPV, but I have somehow. I have had it for years, but did not learn what it was until a few months ago. Since I had never had sex, I assumed the bump I had was a skin tag of some sort. And for years, there was only one bump. But about 6 months ago, I noticed that more, very small, bumps were appearing.
The gynecologist told me I had HPV. I freaked out, horrified, especially since I have no clue in the world how or from whom I contracted the virus. Anyway, a few weeks later, I met a guy at a party. We talked for a little while and really hit it off, and exchanged numbers. For the next couple of months he kept calling and seemed to really like me. I was really starting to like him too, and didn’t wanna blow a good thing, so we saw each other for one more day before the summer ended before we both left for college. Well, the day we spent together was AMAZING. He is the most amazing guy I’ve ever met, and we’re both really stuck on each other. He goes to school in New Jersey (where we both live) but I go to school in Virginia, and he’s driving down in two days to spend the weekend with me – he’s really taking this thing seriously, and so am I.

But here’s my dilemma : He knows I’m a virgin. It came up in conversation. It turns out he’s a virgin too. Seeing as we’re both virgins, I know he’s assuming that I’m totally clean and virus-free.
And the fact that he’s a virgin at 21 shows me that his standards are high, so I don’t think he’s gonna be unfazed by an STD… From a guy’s point of view – would you react better if a girl fessed up in the beginning of the relationship? I’m waiting until marriage to have sex, so it’s not like a *should-we-have-sex* conversation is gonna come up where I can confess this. How long should I wait to tell him? A few months? A year? Till he wants a commitment? Till he loves me? Is it better to be up-front and honest quickly? Or till he’s attached enough to me that he’ll find it harder to leave me? =\
I’m so afraid of losing him over this, I don’t want to screw it up. I need men’s opinions of what the best way to go about this is…

Thanks, guys =\

my boyfriend of only a few months told me tonight that he had his first outbreak nine years ago and hasn’t had one since. now he found a bump this morning; thinks it’s another outbreak. we just quit using condoms a few weeks ago, and we had unprotected sex the day before he spotted the new outbreak, so i’m pretty freaked out. he’s going to the dr for treatment next week, and i already had an appt with my gynecologist next week, so i’ll get checked, too. i’m definitely not happy with him about not telling me, at least when we stopped using condoms. but i know that it is fairly common, and i don’t want to end it with him over this, though. he was treated when he was 19, and he doesn’t seem to understand that it’s possible for him to transmit it even if he’s not having an outbreak. what really has me concerned is that everything i’ve read is saying that the potential for problems in women with HPV are higher, and i read all the time in magazines about how wit can cause tons of problems when left untreated. that’s what scares me; is it possible for this to affect my reproductive health? i already have some problems with that related to endometriosis, so my head is just going around and around right now thinking about if this could further harm my chances of having a baby one day. i’m really freaked out, i don’t know if i’m going to be able to make it till next week for my dr appt.

I’ve got an appointment on Thursday to see a gyn for treatment. My family doctor expects that they will be cauterized (sp)…..or burned off…..has anyone gone through this? What can I expect? I guess any information is good…but these are my most “burning” questions if you will!

1. How long does it normally take/session? (I’ve got one wart as far as I can tell, just inside)
2. How many times do people usually go back for treatment, and how long in between treatments?
3. How long until you see results? Or till you heal?
4. I’m assuming it’s painful…..is this true? How painful? Can you describe it? Please don’t sugar coat!
5. Was it painful even after the treatment? For how long?
6. Do people generally have to miss time at work for healing or is it something that you can kinda jump back into….(My appointment is at 9:45 am, so I was hoping to report back to work afterwards….is this going to be possible?)

Thanks

In May I went to the doctor for a physical and to get tested for anything and everything under the sun. Just to make sure I was healthy happy indiviual. I’ve always seemed to suffer from a very rough mentral period where I’d endore so much pain I couldn’t get out of bed and no amount of over the counter pain killers seemed to really help. And when I was younger my parents and doctors really didn’t seem to understand what was going on with me. I never had a pap done or really anything except for blood work done, which the only thing the doctors told me is take some tylonol and here’s a prescription to birth control and prozac you should be okay. I refused the prozac I told them I’m not depresseded there must be something wrong with me. But even which my very first trip to the gyno they said I was fine. Even though no tests as I recall where done. Was this an early sign?

Everything showed up happily negative in my tests except for an abnormal pap, which was the very first pap I can remember getting, cause everytime I went to the gyno when I was younger I didn’t remember the presedure being done on me before so I specifically asked to have it done this time. Good thing I did which indicated “cervical cancer”. I was shocked and so depressed and didn’t understand anything about it. I’m 21, How does one get cervical cancer at such a young age? Will I be able to have kids? Both my mom and grandmother had hystorecomy’s after having kids because of cancer, and they were about my age too.

I just had a fallow up where a coloscopy and endocervical which are quite painful (I think that’s how there both spelled), my doctor informed me I had High Risk HPV, which is known for causing cervical cancer in some women. She didn’t really explain to me anything else about it so I starting doing some of my own research. And learned that HPV is an STD and one that is also known for genital warts, and as I’ve read and how it was explained to me is that High Risk causes cervical cancer, low risk causes gential warts, and that is possible to have both however rare. Well that’s was even a bigger shock to me. I thought I knew a lot about STD’s it was the same reason for having protected sexual relations. Then I wondered and read more about the virus. Learned that men can not be accuaretely tested for the virus and apparently not even a condom can completely protect you from it, and that 80% of the population has or carriers the virus and doesn’t even know, and that many people who get the virus there body either naturally fights it off, yet still carries it, or they are treated for the visual signs of it such as genital warts.

It also seemed that a lot of women seem to go through this, although much much older. Even my own mother, and grandmother and her friends and lots of other older women I know have gone through the same thing. However the discussion of HPV was never brought up. The same thing was told to me over and over again before I discovered it was HPV. Oh it happens all the time it’s okay you’ll be fine. It’s 99.9% treatable. When 95% of women diagnosed with cervical cancer is caused by HPV.

Is is possible if you have HPV and after being diagnosed with is and treated to have kids and give them the virus and become carriers?

Will I really be fine? If I have just joined a majority of women who go through this. Is this a new way of growing up? Why isn’t more information about this STD talked about or explained to the public? And I wonder, if I have been diagnosed with a High Risk HPV and how casual casual sex has become, how many more young people will be discovered in having such a thing. Seems to me that also a vast majority of young people do not or unable to go through proper testing. As perhaps maybe this could have been caught when I was younger had doctors given me pap’s but I suppose they assumed I was too young. I don’t think anyone is really too young, and I rather have been safe then sorry. However I’m not sorry I’m continuing to live my life with a better understanding I think. And a bit better awarness of something that seems so hush hush. When I brought up the subject of cervical cancer I hear guys and women say “oh my girlfriend went through that” or “I went through that” and I think to myself, wow, another carrier, and then I think maybe it’s best to just to be alone and keep my hands to myself, and maybe I really don’t want kids after all.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to the responces.
