Diagnosed with HPV – lesion on my cervix
I was diagnosed with HPV last august when they found some kind of lesion on my cervix I had 5 bi-opys of the lesion and was cancer free but am required to do paps every 3 to 6 months from then on. Im assuming from what I read today that this means I have 16 or 18 atleast if I read webMD right?
Right now Im 5 months pregnant my questions are these what does this mean for my son because my doctor said he cant catch it and the site said he can and what does it mean for my partner exactly what are the symptoms for a male who contracts 16 or 18 because none of the websites seem to answer this. Anyways being confused is second nature for me but would love any info anyone can give me on this illness.
Thanx.
You have cervical dysplasia. It’s a virus, one of the hundreds of types of HPV out there in the world- and while I’m not a doctor, nor am I an expert, I am just a woman who has the same thing. It’s a virus, and you can give it to your partner. Your doctor should be watching you closely to be sure no more growths come back on your cervix.
The virus strain you have causes cervical growths which can lead to cervical cancer- which is why it’s considered “high risk” and sounds a heck of a lot scarier than I think it is. As long as you go for your regular check-ups and paps, you should be fine- because you’ll know if something changes, and right now your doc should be watching you regularly- which is seems that he/she is.
If you had the other kind of strain that causes warts, you could give your baby warts by having it pass through the birth canal. I think you’re fine- worst case scenario with any of this is to protect the baby, and that would mean a cesection. I think you’re good though- my doctor laughed at me when I asked if this means I couldn’t have natural child birth… so there you go.
As far as I know- men can be a carrier of the strain you have, but will never show symptoms. My ex gave it to me- and never knew he had it.
Thank you so much that really helps!
Yes they are watching my cervix closely and my uterus since there is concern they will spread there.
Anyways thank you.
