Certain types of HPV in women present serious health risks and are linked to the development of cervical cancer; these types are different from the types that cause genital warts, which makes proper diagnosis so important. Your doctor could diagnose human papillomavirus infection by conducting visual examination, or internal examination of the vagina and the anus, while smear pap test could be used to determine if the cervix is infected. Vaccination is available in many of the developed countries and is appropriate for girls and young women that are between 9 and 26 years of age; this vaccination is most effective when used in women before they become sexually active and protects against four virus types that cause cervical cancer and genital warts.

The best possible prevention is limiting the number of random sexual partners and use of protection; however, the human papillomavirus is transmitted via skin-to-skin contact, therefore condoms could only reduce the risk, but cannot eliminate it. Barrier protection when practicing oral sex, vagina, or anal sex is considered beneficial and does limit the chance of contracting other, even more dangerous sexually transmitted diseases.

I am very confused. I went to the doctor today to get my colposcopy results and they came back normal. Well, that wasn’t the problem. The doctor told me that your body can kill the hpv viris itself. He told me that I would no longer have hpv. Is that true? He told me that [...]
